After four fantastic days the international student conference "Printing Future Days"
ended with standing ovations
For the second time, the Institute for Print and Media Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology
invited students and PhD students from all over the world to exchange their experiences. 104 participants
followed the call of the conference. Thus the number of attendees almost doubled compared to 2005.
48 junior scientists from 17 universities from 15 countries took the chance to present their first
own scientific results in the field of print media technology to an international audience. This year the
traditional topics of 'mass printing technologies', 'digital printing' and 'substrate & ink' were
supplemented by new thematic blocks relating to emerging and challenging scientific fields, such as
'printed circuitry' and 'smart objects'. This year the Institute for Print and Media Technology even
succeeded in winning over students from the USA, Japan and Korea to come to Chemnitz for the conference.
Furthermore, 16 representatives from industry and universities participated in the "Printing Future Days".
Some of them provided an interesting insight into future prospect of the print media sector.
The prize for the best presentation was unanimously awarded to a student from Chemnitz University of Technology
— Ingo Reinhold. He spoke on "Numerical simulation and investigation of processes present in AC
corona charging systems". Ashok Sridhar from the University of Twente in Enschede (Netherlands) presented a
poster on the "Evaluation of adhesion strength of inkjet printed silver tracks using pull-off test method"
and received the "Best Poster" award.
A guided tour of the city of Chemnitz as well as to a field trip to the production facilities of MAN Roland
Druckmaschinen AG in Plauen completed the programme of the "Printing Future Days" this year.
During a trip to the Augustusburg castle, the guests could even see a small part of the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge).
Special thanks go to all our sponsors. Without their generous support such an event would not have been possible.
In November 2009, the third "Printing Future Days" will take place in Chemnitz. Then as well, every
assistance and helping hand will be appreciated.
